Deaths & Collisions Continue

On May 20th two spectators were killed, and three others injured, while watching a street race in Lancaster California. The location was at an industrial area known to be frequented by street racers.

This type of tragedy happens all too often and is one of the reasons why there are anti-spectator laws in progressive cities and states. Speed humps are being utilized at popular street racing sites to prevent stories such as these.

California State Senator Darrell Steinberg introduced legislation last month, designed to help California cities and counties reduce a driver's temptation to illegally race by forcing drivers to forfeit their vehicles if they are convicted of participating in a street race. Crushing Continues

On Sunday March 11,  Bell Police Department conducted a street racing enforcement operation impounding several vehicles for stolen component parts.

One seized vehicle (pictured) was a right-hand-drive Honda which contained a transmission with the identification number removed.

Detective Geer, with Bell PD, had this vehicle crushed per 10751(e)(2) of the California Vehicle Code.

Right hand drive, Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) vehicles are on the increase in the United States, many of which were imported illegally. (see Newsletter issue 4 for more JDM information). Insurance companies should reconsider insuring illegal JDM vehicles.

The New York Times wrote an article including this operation and the training Mike Bender provides, click here for the story.

Modified Vehicles Continue to be Targets

Whether it be a modified Acura Integra or a Cadillac Escalade, the more accessories the greater the chances of becoming a target. For the fourth year in a row the Escalade toped the list of vehicles most likely to have claims based on information from the Highway Loss Data Institute. The EXT had overall theft losses 16 times higher than the average. Read More.

Many of these thefts could have been avoided if these vehicles had an effective immobilizer system.

More Stolen Vehicles and Clones Identified

VINtrack Flyer can be downloaded by clicking here.

Recently several more stolen vehicles were purchased, and then sold, by automobile dealerships. Several of the stolen vehicles numbers were changed and appeared perfect to the eye. Click here for a recent story.

The only clue that they were counterfeit was that VINtrack software and hardware identified them as questionable.

Dealerships and auction companies continually get stung by auto thieves who trade-in these clones and stolens for cash or a new car. The dealership then sells the vehicle and months or years later the crime is discovered.

Every week VINtrack Mobile continues to identify stolen vehicles throughout the country. The VINtrack VIN check and OBD VIN software continues to expose data that was missed by conventional means.

VINtrack is used by law enforcement throughout the world and is responsible for identifying clones, VIN switches, re-tags, re-plates and other questionable vehicles conventional means have missed.

VINtrack helps insurance companies from unknowingly insuring stolen VIN-switched/Re-tagged vehicles.

Our enhanced OBD VIN readers can capture electronic VINs in cases where generic OBD readers cannot.
